Capt'n Keith

21.. At Sea

sings Oh what a night!! Late December, back in ’63, what a special time for me, oh what a night..
Kinda wish my night was as good as his would have been.
Oh I was bouncing all around the bed for sure, woohooo.. if only.
It was the waves mate, the waves. Ugh!! Most of yesterday and all night long , all night !!!
So I’ve made an executive decision that we are calling into Port Headland, just 10 hours from now around 9pm tonight… just another day at sea. Of course I didn’t expect it to all be flat sailing that would have been silly, but semi flat … sure .. I want to fish.

A book , any book, or a couple of magazines … yeah those ones with puzzles … that should help …. See what tomorrow brings …lol when we go to town, at least they have a woollies in port headland.. just hope the port isn’t too far from shopping..
And that I can just walk off… I don’t have anything personal against the dinghy … just that it’s rocky, I get wet, and I don’t like it..
Anyway we were having a nice afternoon snooze when the watchmen on duty ( 1st Mate Graham) called on the radio.. saying the motor was slowing down.. uhoh.. so the capt’n went on deck to see what the trouble was and it was just the lack of a little oil and so while there switched the fuel over and it was a bit
Gunk in the fuel filter.. shopping list .. fuel filters for spare..

Its still pretty rough so the capt’n has cut back the engines a bit and hopefully he is looking for somewhere to stop for the night if not at Pt. Headland.. they have a narrow channel into the port dredged out so hubby not happy to be doing that at night time.

The next night was worse …being last night … sigh .. and still we were no where near port headland and its 3 hrs into the port so hubby has opted for Karratha instead to pull into… I concur sir !!
As we pass the entrance to port headland, there are ships galore and none of them’s there floaters are getting in.. we’ve heard they had a ship come in with a covid case , so all ships now banned.. just as well we decided to not go there.. probably couldn’t even if they did answer their radio.. which they didn’t.. tisk tisk ..
And so another night to get into Karratha ( I don’t like night driving) hubby says the lights up the front a pretty bright.. he seems pretty confident enough, we get in there pretty late so he has his sights set on an anchorage but that isn’t till nearly daytime anyway.. after Karratha I think we need to look at this weather window thing a lot closer…
Hmm in Darwin at cash converters hubby got a telly with inbuilt dvd player, he watched a couple shows on it and it seemed ok I think.. but for me the sound was too low so he got this almost boom box thing from the 80’s but with all the mod cord connectors , like Bluetooth, type c and such… but graham has that in his room and is asleep… so I won’t worry about that … but trying to watch the net with all the other sounds around … sheesh ,telly is even up to 100% volume … I know whinge whinge whinge..
