Prepping to go
So after kenny left we started to look to our next port. Saturday was a gorgeous day but sunday clapped out and ken left on monday.. Then tuesday dawned beautiful and we probably should have gone but we decided to get some things from the shop and so we all went to town.
(the other day, when taking some things to the shower to wash out, the wheel on the trailer wasn't turning so we flattened one bit sheesh)
Of course there is no bunnings here to get a replacement wheel (augusta is small) .
Now you have a picture ... lol ... Off i go to town ... trailer with jerry cans in it.. very noisy with the clunk clunk of the wheel ...
i find the way the harbour master had previously said to go and he is right it's very flat , and many many people out at 10am , boaties, kayaks, swimmers, fishers, and walkers , many many walkers. i forgot to mention the kids, plenty of kids on bikes.
so i'm humming along look at what road i could go up that isn't to huge a hill to get up to town .. there was one with a warning of the grade with car and block under it..
so that was too bloody steep, so i kept on .. till the last street , so up i go ... i can feel the drag and so half way up the shop rider turned off !!!!! i could feel it slide back then the trailer turned and i stopped. no power showing at all. luckily, keith and graham were up the end of the street waiting for me to arrive. they soon walked down and keith got a couple of sticks to block the wheels and straightened up the trailer . man i was so so lucky , i could have been at the bottom of the hill mangled the trailer with buggared wheel saved me .. thinking back now ... nope don't want to think what could have happened.
so we thought it just gave out not knowing what had happened, so keith pushed and graham pulled it all the way up the hill. while i was in a taxi sort of bloke, we called to just take me to the cafe. as i didn't have any cash and thats all he took he said not to worry about it. nice guy . so we had brunch at the cafe while charging the rider, and then keith went to get groceries and things he needed. and a couple jerry cans of fuel , then he called the taxi bloke again and we set off for the boat.
the taxi guy was a bit deaf and so he didn't hear much, lol , he nearly took off with the groceries in the back...lol meanwhile, i walk to the bench to sit in the shade .. now this event might seem effortless to you walker types...lol me, not so great .. each step is painful especially when i can feel the bones grating against each other.. i sat and waited to see if my wheel chair back at the boat had any charge to get me back there.
thankfully it did !!! yay !!!! so we waited for a few hours for the rider to charge and keith got a lift back into town and took Graham, cause he is the lightest and for him to ride my shop rider back . they got to the rider and still no battery .. but as keith looked further there is a cut out switch, so he is thinking it overheated and cut out as i was going up the hill .. darn..
to end the story, we are ready to roll for tomorrow, all our things are put away and we have had such a fun time in Augusta ....
learning curve for sure ... lets hope there aren't too many super hilly places like augusta ..
