A previous owner
Well a previous owner emailed me.
I was sooo excited to talk to someone who had owned our boat before us. His name is Luke and I think he was about the 4th owner, we are approximately number 7 i think ...
So, here goes , not in cronological order.. she was built in 1958, one of the first steel fishing boats in Tasmania ( this was confirmed when we met another boat like ours ) .. also built in Tassy in 1962, very similiar design ..
what we know from paper work that was left in the wheelhouse is that she was hit by a container ship , didn't know till Luke that it was hit from behind. Joyce M also ran onto rocks in the nth west near Marrawah. aparently there is a photo on the wall of the pub of her run a ground, i've contacted them today for a copy of the pic if they indeed have it. (a future post for that ) ..
Next bit of news was that she ventured out from Port Arthur in Tassy's south east end, her home port and one time she broke her mooring and was lost at sea for a few months ... MONTHS ...wow .. no more details on that except we know that she was found ... lol ...
A bullet hole in the window of the wheelhouse.. I had no clue , hubby did .. Anyway Luke asked me if the bullet hole was still there... I said , i have no idea at all i will have to ask hubby if he knows and well Luke , there is indeed a bullet hole there .. still .. after all these owners ..
Luke, did some renovations while he had Joyce M. Moving the doorway from the front of the boat closer to the wheelhouse. Making more room inside. Also telling me where the bunks are now used to be where the ice was kept ..
its so interesting to find out some of her history, i'm glad we met Scott and he passed it onto Luke. Thanks to you both so much. Can't wait to get to tassy and meet you guys...
